Ethan V. Knight knows how to fix almost anything.

Broken pipes. Clogged drains. Other people’s emergencies.

Since his wife died, the skinny, socially awkward plumber has survived on work, bad jokes, and a sex life deader than his marriage certificate. When conventional dating gets him nowhere, desperation persuades him to broaden his preferences. Ethan assumes plus-size women will be easier to impress.

He is spectacularly wrong.

They have standards, options, appetites—and increasingly strange requests. What begins as a horny act of surrender soon becomes the best sex of Ethan’s life. There is only one problem: admitting what he wants would force him to confront why he wants it—and Ethan would rather crawl through raw sewage than examine his feelings.

When his grief, guilt, and terrible decisions finally become too much to ignore, Ethan reluctantly tries therapy. Unfortunately, his new therapist is unconventional, dangerously familiar, and hiding a past of her own. Her unusual assignments are supposed to help him heal.

Instead, they turn his life into a full-blown emergency.

Work in Progress is a filthy, grief-soaked dark comedy about sex, loss, questionable therapy, and one deeply damaged man discovering that some problems cannot be fixed with a wrench.
